Brocoli ocarina

Some of the most inventive videos I have seen in a while on Youtube. What do you think? Is it real or is there a tape recorder playing at the same time? The first one seems a bit too polished but the others are quite convincing. And there are plenty more if you check out Youtube.

Nagashi Sohmen

I am aware that I am neglecting this blog lately, and I apologize above all to my English speaking readers. As a matter of fact my (French) photoblog is taking most of my time and energy these days, hence the lack of posts.
Even this post will only be a sort of replica of the latest entry on its little brother-blog.

Anyways... do you know nagashi sohmen?

Nagashi sohmen (flowing noodles) are a summer favorite. The noodles are placed in a flume of bamboo that carries cold water. As the sohmen pass by, you have to pluck them out with your chopsticks, dip them in sauce and yummie!

But this requires a fair amount of preparation...

A bamboo tree has to be cut in two lengthwise and emptied, which is not exactly easy.
But I think that the preparation of the whole thing is what makes it fun, and what people are looking forward to.

This was my first nagashi sohmen the other day at our friends' parents in a nice countryside farmhouse. I think I did quite well with catching the noodles, it wasn't as hard as it looks!

Chasing the monkey

Tokyo commuters were in for a surprise yesterday when they were joined on their way to work by a monkey, in one of the most crowded stations of the city. The area was immediately surrounded by 30 policemen equipped with small nets (you know, those one uses to catch butterflies? No, not really, but nearly). Made me laugh out loud!
Well, they only managed to create more chaos and didn't catch the poor monkey, who is still on the run.

(it was actually much louder than on that video)

And the chase continues.....

Dans mon quartier...

.... on dort tranquille. Il est vivement conseillé aux criminels de ne pas s'approcher, cet endroit n'est pas pour eux. Ah, ben, on est rassurés alors (d'autant plus que le policier est un petit oiseau, LOL!).

Garlic galore!!

Last weekend we suddenly lost our mind and bought this bunch of 15 garlic heads! Huuum, think of all the great garlic dishes we can cook with those... and all the bad breath...
Fifteen garlics from China cost exactly as much as one domestic garlic! Glupps!
Which one would you go for?
